a flowerbomb for new zealand flowers week
I walk past the bucket fountain on Cuba Street almost every day but today it wasn’t the same. It was bedecked with gorgeous orchids, peonies, carnations, and ivy. The Melissa Jane Flowers team wore waders to set this up the night before in celebration of New Zealand Flowers Week and with support from the Wellington City Council.
I couldn’t get enough! The scent was incredible. The petals in the water was genius. The casual spill of ivy from the bottom bucket into the water was magical. It stopped people in their tracks, brought out, not only phones, but huge smiles on people’s faces. We were a bunch of strangers asking each other to take photos, laughing and joking. It really brought home the utter joy that flowers can bring. I love the idea of flowerbombing urban spaces.
Go visit Melissa Jane. Her shop in Ngaio is the sweetest with cute trinkets. There’s also a park with big breezy trees and a playground for the kids or for a totes casual picnic. For more flowerbombs in urban spaces, check out Lewis Miller’s giant bouquets in New York City trashcans here.
